Spicy Hibiscus Fire Cider

Fire Cider is a sweet, sour, spicy, herbal tonic used medicinally to ward off common colds, ease congestion, improve circulation and aid digestion.  This simple folk remedy is easy to make at home and is wonderful to have on hand during the fall and winter seasons.  

 

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 Garlic head, peeled, minced
  • 1 Blood Orange, sliced
  • 1 Lemon, sliced 
  • 2 Serrano chilies, halved 
  • 3 Rosemary sprigs 
  • 1 pomegranate 
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Horseradish, peeled, chopped
  • Ginger, sliced 
  • Black peppercorns
  • Honey, local 
  • Hibiscus flower, dried
  • Calendula petals
  • Rose hips, halved, de seeded

Wash, peel, chop, slice organic produce and herbs and place in a clean jar.  Fill the jar with organic apple cider vinegar, covering all ingredients.  Cover with wax paper and lid.  Infuse in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks, shaking up daily and adding more apple cider as needed.  Strain.  Stir in raw, local honey to taste.  Pour into clean bottles, cap, label & date.  

Take s shot!  Anytime you feel like a cold coming on.  You can also use as a preventative daily tonic.  There are so many variations to this herbal remedy!  Leave the honey out for vegan friendly, add other in season herbs from your garden.  You simply cant go wrong :)
